As we approach Valentine's Day I wanted to share my favorite form of sentimental jewelry... lover's eye jewels! They're equal parts mysterious, charming and romantic. Also known as eye miniatures, they rose to popularity during the late 1700's in England after Prince George of Wales sent one to a woman he was forbidden to marry but ran off with anyways. They take the whole "I only have eyes for you" sentiment quite literally and would have been painted in the likeness of the gift giver. Later they were also commissioned as mourning pieces and done more as memorials to a loved one passed. Such an enduring expression of love!
While I don't have any of these rare beauties in my own collection I do have some sweet love themed pieces available which you can view below if you're in the market for a sentimental treasure!
