Antique mythological Hebe cameo necklace
Handmade Antique Mythological Carved Shell Cameo Necklace
This necklace features an exceptional antique shell cameo pendant (which also doubles as a brooch). It depicts a seated woman feeding a bird which represents the Greek myth of Hebe. I believe the pendant is from the 1920's.
"Hebe was the daughter of Zeus and Hera and the goddess of youth. Hebe was the cupbearer for the gods. Zeus in his eagle form was believed to have the power to impart eternal youth, and thus shared this focus on youth with his daughter. She is usually depicted serving nectar and ambroisa to her father, Zeus, in his eagle form."
The setting of the cameo is marked 925 and has a smattering of marcasite around the border and is open in the back. It is on a silver chain which is finished with a spring clasp and a brass hexagon loop.
The cameo measures just shy of 1.5" long and the chain is 18".
