Black onyx lily of the valley locket necklace
Handmade Antique Victorian Black Onyx Mourning Locket Necklace
An antique Victorian era black onyx and gold-filled locket with a lily of the valley design in seed pearls on the front. (It was likely a mourning piece at one time). The chain was made using a combination of antique gold filled Victorian watch fob chains and is finished with a spring clasp and brass hexagon loop.
The chain measures 18" long. The locket measures 1.5" long and 1" across (from the top of the bail it is just shy of 2" long).
Black onyx is a protection stone and is believed to promote strength during difficult times. In Victorian times lily of the valley often symbolized a return to happiness. Seed pearls usually represented tears. This piece is rich with symbolism!
Condition: The onyx has lost some of its shine and has more of a matte appearance. A couple light scratches on the back of the locket to the onyx but they're hardly noticeable.
