Black Onyx Lily of the Valley Locket Necklace
This might be one of my favorite antique lockets that I've ever come across- it's a truly special piece! It is a large Victorian era gold filled oval piece with black onyx on the front and back of the locket. The front depicts a beautiful lily of the valley flower with seed pearls. I believe it was a mourning locket.
The chain was made using a combination of antique gold filled Victorian watch fob chains and is finished with a spring clasp and brass hexagon loop.
The chain measures 18" long.
The locket measures 1.5" long and 1" across (from the top of the bail it is just shy of 2" long).
Black onyx is a protection stone and is believed to promote strength during difficult times. In Victorian times lily of the valley often symbolized a return to happiness. Seed pearls usually represented tears. This piece is rich with symbolism!
Condition: The onyx has lost some of its shine and has more of a matte appearance. A couple light scratches on the back of the locket to the onyx but they're hardly noticeable.
