Antique victorian shell bird spinner locket necklace
Antique Victorian Shell Bird Spinner Watch Fob Photo Locket Necklace
This necklace was handmade using a combination of new and antique materials. It features an unusual antique gold-filled square Victorian era locket charm that would have originally been worn on a pocket watch chain. It has an ornate scrolled detail at the top and features a mother of pearl center with an abalone shell inlaid bird. It is a spinner design with a locket section on the back so it can be worn either way, with the bird or photo facing out. The locket still has an original black and white photo under glass. (You could change the photo if you like but it will require tools as the glass is held in place by very thin tabs of metal that will have to be bent to remove the glass). It is on a new gold-filled chain which is finished with an antiqued brass (over copper) lobster clasp and a brass hexagon loop.
The locket charm measures just over 1.25" tall and 1" across. The photo opening is .5" tall and .5" across. The chain is 18" long.
Condition: The charm is missing the back panel of the locket (originally it would have had another piece covering the photo). Because it is missing this piece it spins more easily. Some metal wear.
This beauty was unearthed at a flea market in Portland, Oregon.
